INSIDE TURK MASON

INSIDE TURK MASON
x
Once upon a time, in our not so distant past, information was not so readily available, and it required legwork to find whatever it was that we were looking for. The main sources for photographic images were magazines, posters or prints, and movies – even those of the pornographic variety – were viewed in actual theaters. Superstars like Jeff Stryker, Joey Stefano, Ken Ryker and their straight counterparts rose to stardom rather quickly, partly because of their appeal and partly because of the lack of alternatives, not to mention avenues in which to find the next big thing. The VCR allowed people to bring these stars, in moving form, into their homes, which was a huge breakthrough for those who obsessed about privacy, but it would pale in comparison to the introduction of the DVD, and become almost completely obsolete once the internet became more widespread.

Welcome to the digital age, where everything we could want is right at our fingertips, and instant gratification would now be the norm rather than just the desired. Web cams allow us to view each other as we talk or type (just like the Jetsons cartoon) and amateurs are stepping out of the shadows to create their own form of infamy. Type a word or phrase into Google and you are given choices of where these things live on the World Wide Web. Suddenly, finding a way to stand out and create some lasting level of fame is no longer hindered by the lack of choices. Quantity is winning the race with quality, and the public seems to grow hungry for more organic and real images as opposed to the glossy, overproduced ones it had fed on for so long. The odds against becoming known are higher, with the risk of disappearing within what is available, due to sheer volume. It seems impossible to single any particular individual out, and so the myriad of names can not always be connected to faces. And yet, there are a few who have beaten those odds, gaining both face and name recognition, as well as fame. These survivors are not just flesh and blood…they are brands.

Turk Mason is a phenomenon. The quintessential twink, with an almost angelic face, a slender, toned physique that is beautifully proportioned on his 5’10” frame, sandy brown hair, hazel eyes, and a high, sculpted bubble butt. His versatility goes beyond just sexual positions and encompasses his persona, with a range that includes believably innocent, to sly sexual devil, which he is able to pull off by simply changing his expression. He is the boy next door with a sexual twist and a very dirty mind. He can appear young enough to satisfy the closet chicken hawks, as well arouse the twink lovers, and then exude a more mature look and manner for those who prefer their boys to be past their teens.

But mere looks can never be the defining factor since there are so many beautiful boys within the industry, so there has to be something extra to ensure the focus will shift in your favor. In Turk’s case, it is the illusion of accessibility, which is even more evident on his website, which features live cam shows that increase one’s sense of getting closer to the fantasy. He has proven to be so successful at this that his fans actually have a name: Turkkies.

To gain some insight into the scope of his popularity, you need only to type in his name on a Google search and watch as 91,700 results appear. To those who love him, this is hardly a surprise, but what may be overlooked is the addition of mainstream links that will also appear. While most people assume that the porn industry is a self contained environment, and that outside opportunities are scarce, the reality is that fine art photographers often seek out these models for inclusion in their own portfolios or coffee table books. And Turk Mason has posed for some of the best, appearing in Dylan Rosser’s upcoming book, Red, in addition to being featured in Justin Monroe’s first book Down The Rabbit Hole.

And they are but two in a long list which includes Kurt R. Brown, Zedneram, Jeff Slater, Sandro Bross, Justin Thai, the NO H8 campaign by Adam Bouska,

and an entire book that features him solely by Mark Grantham.

He can be found in Beautiful Mag, Playguy, Freshmen, Inches, Allboy, Unzipped and other notable publications. It’s Turk’s world, and we are the lucky voyeurs in it.

And now he comes to BLISS, as the focus of our first fan mag.

With a minimum of effort, his professional history can be researched online, including a succinct yet personal bio on his website, but unearthing the person behind the persona was not so easy. In fact, almost nothing was available online, where the links inevitably led only to his film and photo work. I am honored that Turk took the time out of a very busy schedule to answer my questions in such an honest and forthright manner, giving a rare glimpse inside his private life from his early teens until the present day. He also provided photographs, many which have never been posted anywhere before, not even on his website. In this special edition, we celebrate Turk Mason – the man, the model and the porn star.
